Description
Martin is a bold interpretation of the male body. The vibrant colors, dominated by shades of purple, pink, and white, create a striking contrast against a neutral background, accentuating the subject's musculature and vigor. The vigorous, fluid brushstrokes impart a visual dynamic that pierces the canvas, evoking a palpable tension between strength and vulnerability. The innovative use of dripping paint adds a dimension of movement, as if the figure's energy overflows the frame. This painting invites reflection on the duality of physical strength and internal emotions. The work is a powerful testament to bodily expression and the artist's mastery of material and color.
Presentation
Initially an actor and videographer for the theatre, Samuel, now sam·e, develops a queer practice of sculpture and painting that deconstructs heroic virility and politically questions the body and its representations.
Her work questions the body as a political and plastic space: how norms shape our emotions and identities.
By weakening and queering the codes of the heroic body, they compose desired and desiring presences that invite new forms of resistance.
