Description

The oil painting on Cardboard titled "A mysterious evening on the dam in the city" captures the quiet, contemplative mood of a serene urban landscape as the day transitions into evening. The artist's use of thick, expressive brushstrokes creates a sense of movement and texture, bringing the scene to life with layers of rich color and dynamic forms. In the foreground, a row of white stone posts linked by dark chains marks the boundary of a path running alongside the dam. The thick, impasto strokes capture the rough texture of the stone, while the chains add a sense of structure and depth to the composition. The path itself curves gently into the distance, leading the viewer's eye toward the heart of the scene. To the right, a lone cyclist is captured mid-motion, their dark silhouette contrasting sharply against the lighter tones of the path. The figure, painted with loose, confident strokes, adds a sense of life and movement, hinting at the quiet activities that continue as the evening sets in. The bicycle's wheels seem to spin subtly within the layers of paint, adding a sense of fleeting motion to the otherwise still scene. Beyond the path, the dam itself is rendered in a palette of cool grays and deep blues, the stone structure blending seamlessly into the surrounding landscape. The artist captures the rough, weathered surface of the dam, its worn texture a testament to the passage of time. A deep, shadowed arch at the base of the structure draws the eye inward, suggesting the mysterious depths of the water beyond. Above the dam, the landscape softens into a series of rolling hills and dense trees, painted in a range of greens and blues that capture the fading light of the evening. The thick foliage contrasts with the smooth, reflective surface of the water, which stretches into the distance, mirroring the cool, muted tones of the sky above. The sky itself is a study in soft, atmospheric color, with pale pinks, lavender hues, and hints of golden light peeking through the dense clouds. The artist's brushwork captures the subtle shifts in tone as the sun sets, casting a gentle, diffused light over the entire scene.

Works by Boris Serdyuk are held in museums in the Sumy and Chernihiv regions, as well as in private collections in Ukraine, European countries, the USA, Israel, and other countries.
In 2018, the artist entered the global art space of the creative platform in New York, where seven of his works were included in the catalog "Painting & Graphics."
Currently lives and works in Kremenchuk, Poltava Region.
Took his first steps in the world of visual arts within the walls of his local school, then studied at Yuriev-Polsky Pedagogical School. After graduation, he returned to his homeland and started working as a drawing and painting teacher.
Later, he realized that for an artist, creative freedom is essential. Thus, after seventeen years of teaching, he left the profession to focus on his creative work. The artist is content to have the opportunity to engage in his beloved craft, which he considers the meaning of his life.
His journey had its ups and downs, victories in competitions, and recognition from admirers, yet he never ceased his determined quest for his artistic path. In ancient times, "serdyuk" referred to professional infantrymen in the Cossack ranks. This heritage likely passed down not only the surname but also many Cossack traits to the artist, including hard work, modesty, and human dignity.
Boris Serdyuk creates in genres such as portrait, landscape, and thematic composition. His works are varied, reflecting the artist's impressions of the places he visited. Among them are picturesque corners of Kremenchuk and Dnipro views, urban and maritime landscapes, the grandeur of the Carpathian Mountains, and cozy Ukrainian villages. His canvases are intriguing in terms of color and relatively compositionally perfect, revealing the life of nature at the time of their execution.
There are also commissioned portraits and paintings, such as "Shevchenko in Baturyn." He spent over a year working on it, studying the architecture of the former hetman capital. However, the artist prefers to work swiftly, capturing the vision of a painting before it fades from his mind and before the sun changes its angle and shadows. On average, according to the artist, he spends about 40 minutes on a single landscape.
Boris successfully combines a poetic perception of the world and a deep understanding of nature with brilliant artistic execution. His paintings exude a special light and a delicate sense of nature – vivid colors on the canvas resonate with intermediate tones. The artist has abandoned contours, replacing them with separate and contrasting brushstrokes; his paintings amaze with colors, not only their diversity but also the amount of substance applied to the canvas – vibrant, vivid, voluminous.
Describing the master's works is a challenging task. Boris Serdyuk's works are special – they are painted with soul. One must see and feel the wonderful harmony of nature on the artist's canvases firsthand and touch the great mystery of Art.
