Description

The oil painting on Cardboard titled "A Quiet Night Passes Among the Grasses" captures the serene beauty of a landscape transitioning from the warmth of day to the cool embrace of night. The artist has used a rich palette of blues, purples, and deep greens to convey the calmness and stillness that descends as the sun sets beyond the horizon. In the foreground, thick, expressive brushstrokes depict the lush grasses that cover the landscape, their forms blending into the shadows as the light fades. The use of textured, impasto techniques creates a sense of depth and movement, making the grass appear almost alive, gently swaying in the evening breeze. The layers of green, from deep forest hues to brighter, sunlit tones, capture the diversity of the natural world, even in the fading light. Towards the center of the painting, a cluster of trees stands tall, their silhouettes catching the last rays of the setting sun. The artist has carefully layered yellows, golds, and warm browns to give the trees a glowing, almost ethereal quality, as if they are the last to say farewell to the day. This touch of warmth provides a beautiful contrast to the cool tones of the sky and foreground, drawing the viewer's eye into the heart of the composition. Above, the sky is a breathtaking blend of soft pastels, from gentle lavender to deep indigo, with hints of warm pink and orange where the sun's final light touches the clouds. These colors merge seamlessly into the darker tones of the approaching night, creating a sense of depth and vastness that extends far beyond the edges of the cardboard. In the distance, the landscape softens, fading into a misty horizon where trees and grasses blend into the haze of evening. This sense of depth is enhanced by the artist's use of softer, more diffused brushstrokes, capturing the way light and shadow play across the landscape as day turns to night. A small, dark shape in the distance, perhaps a lone animal or a distant tree, adds a touch of mystery to the scene, hinting at the quiet life that continues even as the world around it falls silent. This painting is a beautiful tribute to the quiet, reflective moments found in nature, where the only sounds are the rustling of grasses and the distant calls of nocturnal creatures. It captures a fleeting moment of peace and solitude, inviting the viewer to pause and appreciate the beauty of the natural world as it settles into the calm of night.

Works by Boris Serdyuk are held in museums in the Sumy and Chernihiv regions, as well as in private collections in Ukraine, European countries, the USA, Israel, and other countries.
In 2018, the artist entered the global art space of the creative platform in New York, where seven of his works were included in the catalog "Painting & Graphics."
Currently lives and works in Kremenchuk, Poltava Region.
Took his first steps in the world of visual arts within the walls of his local school, then studied at Yuriev-Polsky Pedagogical School. After graduation, he returned to his homeland and started working as a drawing and painting teacher.
Later, he realized that for an artist, creative freedom is essential. Thus, after seventeen years of teaching, he left the profession to focus on his creative work. The artist is content to have the opportunity to engage in his beloved craft, which he considers the meaning of his life.
His journey had its ups and downs, victories in competitions, and recognition from admirers, yet he never ceased his determined quest for his artistic path. In ancient times, "serdyuk" referred to professional infantrymen in the Cossack ranks. This heritage likely passed down not only the surname but also many Cossack traits to the artist, including hard work, modesty, and human dignity.
Boris Serdyuk creates in genres such as portrait, landscape, and thematic composition. His works are varied, reflecting the artist's impressions of the places he visited. Among them are picturesque corners of Kremenchuk and Dnipro views, urban and maritime landscapes, the grandeur of the Carpathian Mountains, and cozy Ukrainian villages. His canvases are intriguing in terms of color and relatively compositionally perfect, revealing the life of nature at the time of their execution.
There are also commissioned portraits and paintings, such as "Shevchenko in Baturyn." He spent over a year working on it, studying the architecture of the former hetman capital. However, the artist prefers to work swiftly, capturing the vision of a painting before it fades from his mind and before the sun changes its angle and shadows. On average, according to the artist, he spends about 40 minutes on a single landscape.
Boris successfully combines a poetic perception of the world and a deep understanding of nature with brilliant artistic execution. His paintings exude a special light and a delicate sense of nature – vivid colors on the canvas resonate with intermediate tones. The artist has abandoned contours, replacing them with separate and contrasting brushstrokes; his paintings amaze with colors, not only their diversity but also the amount of substance applied to the canvas – vibrant, vivid, voluminous.
Describing the master's works is a challenging task. Boris Serdyuk's works are special – they are painted with soul. One must see and feel the wonderful harmony of nature on the artist's canvases firsthand and touch the great mystery of Art.
