Description
SERB 1188
The oil painting on Canvas titled "Children are Relaxing by the River" captures a timeless moment of youthful freedom, innocence, and joy. The scene is filled with the energy and spontaneity of a summer day, as a group of children gather on a wooden platform extending over a shimmering river, their laughter and excitement almost audible through the brushwork. Set against the backdrop of cool, lavender-blue water, the artist uses rich color contrasts and soft reflections to evoke a dreamlike atmosphere. The river is calm yet vibrant, its surface painted in shifting hues of purples, blues, and gentle hints of green, reflecting the trees and sky above. These reflections not only provide depth and texture to the water but also act as a mirror to the carefree emotions of the children. At the heart of the composition are the children themselves, each caught in a unique posture that tells a story. One boy is mid-air, caught in a joyful leap into the cool water, his arms stretched wide, face turned toward the plunge—a figure of unfiltered excitement. Another child, slightly hesitant, reaches out to balance herself as she prepares to jump, while others follow behind, stepping down the weathered steps of the dock with eager anticipation. Some are already in the water, their heads just visible above the surface, creating ripples that dance in the light. The children's clothing, a mix of swimsuits and casual summer attire, suggests spontaneity—a spontaneous decision to swim, perhaps taken during a lazy, sunlit afternoon. The diversity of postures and expressions—from excitement and courage to hesitation and calm—brings a natural rhythm to the scene. Each figure contributes to the collective narrative while maintaining individuality. What makes this painting especially captivating is its emotional resonance. It evokes a universal memory—of childhood summers spent by the water, of long days without schedules, of friendships built on shared moments of wonder and fun. The warmth of the sun is implied in the golden highlights on the children's skin, the subtle shadows, and the reflective gleam of water, which the artist achieves with masterful use of light and color.

Works by Boris Serdyuk are held in museums in the Sumy and Chernihiv regions, as well as in private collections in Ukraine, European countries, the USA, Israel, and other countries.
In 2018, the artist entered the global art space of the creative platform in New York, where seven of his works were included in the catalog "Painting & Graphics."
Currently lives and works in Kremenchuk, Poltava Region.
Took his first steps in the world of visual arts within the walls of his local school, then studied at Yuriev-Polsky Pedagogical School. After graduation, he returned to his homeland and started working as a drawing and painting teacher.
Later, he realized that for an artist, creative freedom is essential. Thus, after seventeen years of teaching, he left the profession to focus on his creative work. The artist is content to have the opportunity to engage in his beloved craft, which he considers the meaning of his life.
His journey had its ups and downs, victories in competitions, and recognition from admirers, yet he never ceased his determined quest for his artistic path. In ancient times, "serdyuk" referred to professional infantrymen in the Cossack ranks. This heritage likely passed down not only the surname but also many Cossack traits to the artist, including hard work, modesty, and human dignity.
Boris Serdyuk creates in genres such as portrait, landscape, and thematic composition. His works are varied, reflecting the artist's impressions of the places he visited. Among them are picturesque corners of Kremenchuk and Dnipro views, urban and maritime landscapes, the grandeur of the Carpathian Mountains, and cozy Ukrainian villages. His canvases are intriguing in terms of color and relatively compositionally perfect, revealing the life of nature at the time of their execution.
There are also commissioned portraits and paintings, such as "Shevchenko in Baturyn." He spent over a year working on it, studying the architecture of the former hetman capital. However, the artist prefers to work swiftly, capturing the vision of a painting before it fades from his mind and before the sun changes its angle and shadows. On average, according to the artist, he spends about 40 minutes on a single landscape.
Boris successfully combines a poetic perception of the world and a deep understanding of nature with brilliant artistic execution. His paintings exude a special light and a delicate sense of nature – vivid colors on the canvas resonate with intermediate tones. The artist has abandoned contours, replacing them with separate and contrasting brushstrokes; his paintings amaze with colors, not only their diversity but also the amount of substance applied to the canvas – vibrant, vivid, voluminous.
Describing the master's works is a challenging task. Boris Serdyuk's works are special – they are painted with soul. One must see and feel the wonderful harmony of nature on the artist's canvases firsthand and touch the great mystery of Art.
