The Oil painting on Cardboard titled “Quiet street in the old town" captures the timeless charm and character of a historical European street, where the cobblestones seem to echo the stories of centuries past. The composition unfolds as a narrow passage framed by rustic buildings with tiled roofs, ornate towers, and weathered facades that glow under the interplay of light and shadow. This work immerses the viewer in an atmosphere that is both tranquil and full of hidden life, where the calmness of the present day harmonizes with the weight of history embedded in every wall and stone. The foreground is dominated by a carefully textured cobblestone street, painted with a range of earthy tones—lavenders, grays, and muted browns—that shimmer with reflected light. These cobbles lead the eye naturally toward the vanishing point, pulling the viewer into the very heart of the scene. Each stone is given a sense of individuality, contributing to the realism of the painting while maintaining a painterly, expressive touch. The architecture on either side of the street speaks of the old town's character. On the right, warm ochre and sienna tones dominate, where simple yet sturdy stone walls and pitched roofs convey durability and age. Windows with their deep blue tints break the monotony, adding hints of intimacy and domestic life. On the left, a series of buildings rise with greater complexity—arched windows, ornate details, and a lively red-tiled roof that glows brightly in the sunlight. A striped awning of blue and white juts out, evoking the bustling presence of a small café or shop, inviting passersby to pause and linger. The towers in the background provide grandeur and vertical rhythm to the painting. One, with its dark, curved dome-like top, stands solemnly against the light sky, while another, more slender and sharply pointed, appears almost ethereal in soft hues of gray and violet. These towers anchor the composition, symbols of the town's historic identity and enduring presence. Their spires reach toward the sky, which is painted with quick, sweeping strokes of blue, white, and gray, suggesting a partly cloudy day with sunlight breaking through.
