Vincent: Hommage a Van Gogh I, 2009

Iszchan Nazarian

This artwork is a dynamic portrayal of Vincent van Gogh wearing a wide-brimmed hat, rendered in vivid, contrasting colors. The subject's face is a tapestry of bold hues—yellow, orange, and blue—creating a striking visual impact.

The background features an abstract mix of deep blues and greens that enhance the figure's presence. The hat's bright yellow contrasts sharply with the predominantly cool backdrop, drawing immediate attention to the head.

Stark, expressive eyes capture a sense of introspection, inviting viewers to ponder the figure's inner thoughts. The brushwork is bold and expressive, giving the piece a raw, emotional texture. This painting's interplay of color and form exemplifies the artist's skill in blending abstraction with figurative elements, offering a captivating visual experience.

The artist graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw in 1975. 8 years later he moved to Chicago. His works were presented in the prestigious Lloyd Shin Gallery, in Warsaw, USA and Monaco. He is a laureate of many important awards, among others:  Diploma di Benemerenza, Academia Leonardo da Vinci ( Rome, Italy, 1980), Special Prize of Jury, XI Palme d'Or des Beaux Arts International Competition (Monte Carlo, Monaco, 1979), Certificate of Merit, Dictionary of International Biography (Cambridge, England, 1979), Certificate of Merit, Men of Achievement, International Biographical Centre (Cambridge, England, 1979).
