“Present Moment" is a contemporary abstract portrait by French artist Natalya Mougenot, created as part of her ongoing series dedicated to women and their inner emotional landscapes. In this work, a woman is seated on a chair in a pensive manner, reflecting on the "present moment."
Her posture invites us to pause alongside her, tuning into the subtle rhythms of breath, sensation, and unspoken feeling that define our immediate reality.
Mougenot's unique style is instantly recognizable through her bold, gestural brushwork, thick black outlines that define form with raw energy, and vibrant color fields that pulse with emotion.
Working primarily in acrylic on heavyweight Italian paper, she favors intuitive, spontaneous marks over precision—drips, overlaps, and visible strokes become signatures of her authenticity.
This approach sets her apart in the contemporary art scene: her pieces feel alive, unpolished, and deeply personal, blending expressionism's fervor with a modern, cartoonish simplicity that echoes metamodern tensions between playfulness and profundity.
Collectors and viewers spot her work from afar by that electric cerulean background, the rhythmic interplay of warm ochres against cool blues, and figures that seem to breathe with inner life.
“I do not paint figures to describe them. I paint them to reveal what is happening in the present moment." — Natalya Mougenot
Mougenot's authenticity and honesty in art shine through her embrace of metamodernism, where oscillation between sincerity and irony reveals deeper truths.
She approaches each canvas without pretense, letting raw emotion guide the brush—honoring the messy beauty of human experience over polished perfection. In her view, true art emerges from this vulnerability, mirroring how we must confront our own unfiltered selves.
“Art must be honest. In metamodernism, we oscillate between feeling everything and questioning it all—authenticity emerges in that tension." — Natalya Mougenot
Focusing on the present moment demands full connection to our feelings and emotions. It's in this now that life unfolds: the quiet thrum of joy or unease, the weight of unspoken desires, the flicker of insight that arises unbidden.
Distractions dissolve, leaving space for what truly matters—raw sensations becoming compasses for self-discovery. Here, vulnerability isn't weakness; it's the gateway to resilience, where we learn to hold space for complexity without rushing to resolve it.
“Presence is not fleeting. It is where resilience is anchored, where stillness and power coexist." — Natalya Mougenot
“Women have always navigated these inner currents. In the present, they reclaim their emotional truth—not as burden, but as power." — Natalya Mougenot
Her practice consistently explores what often remains unspoken in women's lives: the invisible negotiations between fragility and determination, solitude and presence. By tuning into the present, we strip away pretense and external noise, allowing genuine emotional truth to surface and reshape us from within.
“Present Moment" offers collectors a powerful meditation on mindfulness and self-containment.
The work celebrates quiet strength—the kind that does not seek attention yet profoundly shapes identity from within. It reminds us that in embracing the now, we find not just clarity, but the courage to simply be.
This piece appeals to collectors of contemporary figurative abstraction, metamodern art enthusiasts, and those seeking emotionally resonant works that bridge personal introspection with universal themes.
Its vibrant yet serene palette and dynamic forms make it ideal for modern minimalist interiors, yoga studios, wellness spaces, eclectic home offices, or sophisticated living rooms—infusing any environment with contemplative energy and a touch of bold originality.

Natalya is a contemporary french artist living in Lyon.
She was born and grew up in Kazakhstan, the country known for its spacious steppes.
She arrived in France 2003. Since that moment she loves her adoptive country.
She started painting in 2017 and used it as a therapeutic and emotional release during times of crisis. She incorporates this therapeutic approach in her artistic creative process till now.
In her artistic practice she refers to the terms of metamodernism, which proposes to look at the world from the position of the inner adult.
As an artist and as a woman she translates the experience of her personal search for balance based on harmony between mind, soul and body. This balance, in her opinion, is the pillar for the inner adult.
Important components of her work are authenticity, soulfulness, sincerity, emotionality and honesty. She immerses the objects and the characters in the world where there is no falsity, rudeness, loneliness and indifference.
She works rapidly and is constantly sensitive to the details.
Her artistic process is a fine balance between a pre-meditation and spontantainty which helps her to create her expressive atmospheric artworks with a modern touch of impressionism by cultivating a naive art approach.
