Description
"Lemon Table" is an original contemporary expressive still life painting, featuring lemons, citrus fruit, green leaves, flowers and a decorative blue-and-white vase, created by French artist Natalya Mougenot in acrylic on heavyweight professional acid-free paper, measuring 84.1 × 59.4 cm (33.1 × 23.4 in), and inspired by Henri Matisse, Fauvism, Mediterranean interiors and decorative modernist painting.
“Lemon Table" celebrates the joyful abundance of a Mediterranean still life through intense colour, simplified forms and energetic brushwork. Bright yellow lemons dominate the composition, contrasted with deep cobalt and ultramarine blues, emerald greens, vivid reds and touches of pink. The visible brushstrokes give the painting a spontaneous, tactile quality.
The work is particularly inspired by Henri Matisse's approach to colour and decorative composition. Like Matisse, Natalya moves away from strict realism, simplifying objects into expressive shapes and allowing colour to carry emotion. The patterned vase, flattened perspective, bold contours, abundant foliage and saturated complementary colours recall Matisse's fascination with still life, interiors, decorative patterns and Mediterranean light.
At the same time, Natalya brings her own contemporary expressive language: vigorous brushwork, strong contrasts and an almost joyful sense of movement transform the traditional still life into a vibrant celebration of nature, colour and everyday beauty.
The artwork is varnished for protection. As it is painted on paper, it will require framing; a suitable frame with a mount and protective glazing or Plexiglas can be chosen by the buyer according to their interior.

Lemon Table — Original Acrylic Painting by Natalya Mougenot
“Lemon Table" is an original contemporary expressive still life painting featuring lemons, citrus fruit, green leaves, flowers and a decorative blue-and-white vase, created by French artist Natalya Mougenot in acrylic on heavyweight professional acid-free paper, measuring 84.1 × 59.4 cm (33.1 × 23.4 in). The work combines expressive figurative painting, Fauvist-inspired colour, Mediterranean aesthetics and decorative modernism, and is varnished for protection.
The painting is inspired by Henri Matisse, particularly his revolutionary use of pure, intense colour, simplified forms, decorative patterns and flattened pictorial space. Like Matisse, Natalya does not attempt to reproduce the lemons, leaves and vase in a strictly realistic manner. Instead, she transforms them into bold, expressive shapes and allows colour to become an emotional and compositional force.
The bright lemon yellow against deep blues, emerald greens, vivid reds and pinks, together with the ornamental blue-and-white vase and simplified foliage, recalls Matisse's fascination with Mediterranean light, interiors, still life and decorative harmony. The arrangement is less about realistic perspective and more about creating a joyful, rhythmic composition in which every colour and shape contributes to the overall energy of the painting.
At the same time, “Lemon Table" remains distinctly Natalya Mougenot's own contemporary interpretation. Her energetic brushwork, strong outlines, saturated colours and spontaneous marks give the work a more expressive, tactile quality, transforming a traditional still life into a celebration of nature, colour, Mediterranean warmth and everyday beauty.
Framing:
The artwork is painted on heavyweight professional acid-free paper and is unframed.
The painting is varnished for protection.
The artwork is created in the standard A1 format (59.4 × 84.1 cm / 23.4 × 33.1 in), making it easy to frame using a readily available A1 frame.
For a contemporary gallery-style presentation, the artwork can be placed in an A1 frame with glazing, in natural wood, white or black depending on the interior. A simple A1 frame without a passe-partout can display the full artwork at its original dimensions.
The frame is not included.
The interior images showing the artwork framed are for inspiration only, illustrating different ways the artwork could be presented in an interior.
Presentation
Natalya is a contemporary french artist living in Lyon.
She was born and grew up in Kazakhstan, the country known for its spacious steppes.
She arrived in France 2003. Since that moment she loves her adoptive country.
She started painting in 2017 and used it as a therapeutic and emotional release during times of crisis. She incorporates this therapeutic approach in her artistic creative process till now.
In her artistic practice she refers to the terms of metamodernism, which proposes to look at the world from the position of the inner adult.
As an artist and as a woman she translates the experience of her personal search for balance based on harmony between mind, soul and body. This balance, in her opinion, is the pillar for the inner adult.
Important components of her work are authenticity, soulfulness, sincerity, emotionality and honesty. She immerses the objects and the characters in the world where there is no falsity, rudeness, loneliness and indifference.
She works rapidly and is constantly sensitive to the details.
Her artistic process is a fine balance between a pre-meditation and spontantainty which helps her to create her expressive atmospheric artworks with a modern touch of impressionism by cultivating a naive art approach.
