Description
A dense collective presence, almost a crowd, yet each figure seems isolated in their own perception. The atmosphere is suspended, as if an event has just occurred or is about to occur. A group of figures gathers in the same space, but each seems absorbed by a different inner state. Their gestures and postures suggest a silent tension, as if the atmosphere itself were charged with uncertainty. The painting captures this fragile moment where the collective presence does not create unity, but instead reveals the subtle distance that separates individuals.
Presentation
Patrick Vandecasteele is a French figurative painter whose work explores the psychological and social nuances of the human posture. His figures seem suspended in moments of hesitation, balance, and inner tension, suggesting both confrontation and mutual support.
Working primarily in oil on canvas, he explores the body as a site of resilience and uncertainty, where stability and collapse coexist. His paintings do not depict events, but rather create a state of tension, inviting the viewer to confront the subtle instability that underlies the apparent calm of everyday life.
Since 2021 Patrick Vandecasteele has been exhibiting in galleries and institutions internationally, notably in Paris, Avignon, London, Venice, Milan, Berlin and Luxembourg.
