The Presentation, 2022

Moon-Seup Shim

Shim Moon Seup's (2022) continues the artist's exploration of rhythm, perception, and material presence through a refined and balanced composition. Executed in acrylic on canvas, the work is structured through horizontal bands of soft blue and grey tones, layered with subtle gradations that create a sense of depth and quiet luminosity.

Measuring 160 x 160 cm, this square-format painting introduces a more contained and introspective spatial experience. The composition is marked by a central area of tonal contrast, where slightly darker and lighter passages interact, guiding the viewer's gaze while maintaining an overall sense of equilibrium. The vertical traces within the horizontal structure add a delicate tension, suggesting both movement and stillness.

Through a process of repetition and variation, Shim Moon Seup constructs a surface that reflects the passage of time. Each layer carries the memory of the previous gesture, creating a visual field that is both structured and fluid. The restrained palette enhances the contemplative nature of the work, allowing light and texture to emerge gradually.

Rooted in a meditative approach, invites a slow engagement, where the viewer experiences not only the image but the duration embedded within it. The work functions as both a visual anchor and a space of reflection, making it particularly suited for contemporary architectural environments.
