Description
Inspired by a classic painting by the British artist George Stubbs (1724-1806), Nadège Dauvergne created this expressive work on an innovative support: a thick wood fiber medium that can be hung on the wall or placed on a shelf. Her unique Posca marker technique pays homage to the animal as well as to the history of art. On the back of the artwork are the complete palette of Posca markers used by the artist, along with essential information: title, date, signature, technique, and a reference to Stubbs.
Presentation
Most street artists are self-taught. Not her. It is after having followed classical studies at the Beaux-Arts, and taking with her a solid cultural and technical background that Nadège Dauvergne turned to urban art.
I grew up in the suburbs of Paris and the world of graffiti has always attracted me, I liked to hang out near the railroad tracks in the wastelands, these are inspiring places," explains the artist. Her work in the street has logically come to feed her works sold in galleries.
In recent years, she has been working on two recurring themes: the (mostly) female figures of academic painting or sculpture that she introduces into the world of urban contemporary art on the one hand, and wild animals that venture into the city on the other. In both cases, these women and these animals, immigrated in an environment which is a priori foreign to them, manage not only to survive, but transfigure their new environment by irradiating it with their mysterious and timeless grace.
