Venetian Light, 2026

Olena Kishkurno

Venetian Light from the Inner Landscapes series

Abstract impressionist painting inspired by the atmosphere of Venice - a city experienced through light, reflection, and memory. Rather than depicting a specific place, the work evokes the fleeting sensation of walking through quiet canals in the early morning or at dusk, when the air is filled with the scent of coffee, soft humidity, and the sound of water moving slowly through the city.

The painting unfolds between abstraction and recognition. Architectural forms dissolve into luminous vertical gestures, while reflections blur the boundaries between water, light, and space. The surface remains fluid and atmospheric, allowing the image to appear almost like a memory emerging through mist.

Working within the language of contemporary abstraction, abstract impressionism, lyrical abstraction, and atmospheric painting, Olena Kishkurno explores landscape not as geography, but as an emotional state. Water becomes a carrier of memory - reflective, unstable, constantly shifting - while the muted palette of pale rose, soft grey-green, and silvery light creates a quiet sense of calm and intimacy.

This contemporary abstract landscape painting combines gestural brushwork with subtle tonal layering, creating a meditative visual experience that resonates with themes of stillness, nostalgia, and presence. Venetian Light is both an abstract cityscape and an inner landscape - a space suspended between reality and recollection.
