Textured abstract oil painting by Pascal Courcelles with vibrant impasto layers, sculptural gestures and expressive floral-inspired abstraction.
In "Flora 2", Pascal Courcelles intensifies his exploration of painting as a physical and sensorial experience. Through dense accumulations of oil paint and sweeping gestural movements, the artist constructs a composition that exists simultaneously as image, relief and material presence.
Dominated by luminous tones of coral red, crimson, pink, orange and yellow, the work unfolds like a vibrant chromatic eruption, contrasted by passages of emerald green, turquoise and cobalt blue that emerge from beneath the surface. The floral reference remains suggestive rather than descriptive: an evocation of organic growth, unfolding petals and natural vitality transformed into pure painterly energy.
Courcelles approaches paint as living matter. Thick impasto folds, sculptural ridges and fluid transitions capture and reflect light across the surface, creating a dynamic visual rhythm that continuously shifts according to the viewer's perspective. The composition appears in constant transformation, balancing spontaneity and structural harmony with remarkable intensity despite its intimate scale.
Rooted in the lineage of European material abstraction, reflects Courcelles' instinctive relationship with colour and gesture, a painting driven less by representation than by sensation, vibration and the joy of the act of painting itself.
