Pascal Courcelles

Textured abstract oil painting by Pascal Courcelles with vibrant impasto layers, sculptural gestures and expressive floral-inspired abstraction.

In Flora 4, Pascal Courcelles composes a vibrant landscape of colour and matter where painting unfolds as a living, tactile force. Through thick accumulations of oil paint and instinctive sweeping gestures, the artist creates a composition that oscillates between floral suggestion and pure abstraction.

Fluid ribbons of coral red, fuchsia, rose, orange and luminous yellow move across the surface in dynamic waves, contrasting with passages of violet, turquoise, mint green and white. The colours appear to bloom organically, intertwining and expanding beyond the traditional limits of the canvas. Rather than depicting nature, Courcelles evokes its movement, energy and constant transformation.

The sculptural impasto gives the work a powerful physical presence. Dense folds, ridges and layered textures capture the light differently across the surface, producing shifting visual rhythms and an immersive sensorial quality. Each gesture retains its spontaneity while contributing to an overall balance of chromatic intensity and material harmony.

Deeply rooted in the tradition of European material abstraction, reflects Courcelles' enduring fascination with colour as emotion and painting as a direct, instinctive act. The work embodies vitality, freedom and the joy of creation — a celebration of painting in its most physical and expressive form.
