Holding the Edge of the Ocean, 2026

Barbara Schaumann

This artwork presents a vivid, serene scene blending interior comfort with the expansive beauty of nature. The painting showcases an inviting living space adorned with retro-style furniture in soft pastels, opening up to a breathtaking ocean view through wide, folding patio doors. The indoor plants and bright, patterned cushions enhance the cozy yet vibrant atmosphere. Outside, the panoramic vista reveals a tranquil sea under a clear sky, with gentle waves accentuating the sense of peace. The light and shadows play artfully across the room's floor, suggesting a warm, sunny day. Unique to this piece is the harmonious integration of indoor and outdoor elements, creating a seamless transition that evokes relaxation and freedom. The use of bold colors and dynamic lines ensures that viewers are drawn into the idyllic setting, making it a compelling escape into a tropical paradise.

Barbara Schaumann's latest collection brings together traditional oil painting with, in some works, delicate stitching to create vibrant, textured pieces. Inspired by the relaxed feeling of tropical holidays, these works invite you to slow down — to escape into moments of warmth, ease, and quiet longing.

With bold colours, soft light, and breezy compositions, the paintings capture the laid-back rhythm of holiday life. Where present, subtle thread details are carefully incorporated into the canvas, highlighting small elements and adding a tactile layer to the work — bringing intimacy and depth without overpowering the calm, open feel of each piece.
