Description
In Walton Lighthouse, the lighthouse marking the entrance to Santa Cruz Harbor rises in the center of a turbulent landscape. The pale tower, firmly anchored to its rocky base, stands facing powerful waves that seem to close in around it. The composition contrasts the stable verticality of the lighthouse with the swirling, curving movements of the sea. Broad, linear strokes traverse the space, conveying the force of the wind. The white and gray masses, worked in layers, suggest sea foam and the impact of water against the structure. Paper collage and the integration of sand lend a mineral texture to the base and the rocks, reinforcing the feeling of a shore battered by the elements. The deliberately limited palette—ochres, grays, muted blues—creates a tense, almost silent atmosphere, despite the suggested violence. The lighthouse is not represented as a mere architectural motif: it becomes a sign of human presence, a point of reference and endurance. Through this work, Alain explores the human impulse in the face of the power of natural forces. The lighthouse, isolated yet determined, embodies this will to persevere and guide, even when the sea and wind relentlessly test human constructions.

Presentation

Painting is a material and spiritual journey that I take around my first passions, mountains, water, sailing, sea and music. Since my beginnings in 1974, I have trained with other painters. First very inspired by the vibration of colors in the Impressionists and the Fauvists, I turned in the 80s to watercolor, whose transparencies I appreciate.

Finally around the 2000s, I discovered contemporary painting and mixed techniques opening up the field of possibilities. Indeed, by preparing my paintings with collages of paper and sand, I create textures where the paint, very diluted in the manner of watercolors, reacts by drainage or by diffusion to leave its own mark. By the gesture, I print the energies. By the softness of the transparencies and the relationship to emptiness, I register my emotions. Each painting thus invites to a poetic journey.
