Description
This artwork depicts a serene and picturesque scene in a sunlit garden. A woman, elegantly draped, sits on a green bench, wearing a floral hat. She is engrossed in reading a blue book, radiating absolute tranquility. Around her, three cats with varied coats are harmoniously arranged: one beside her, another at her feet, and the last on the bench's armrest. A large pink parasol provides soft shade, adding a touch of elegance. In the background, a church with a slender steeple rises peacefully, surrounded by verdant foliage that contrasts with the pastel hues of the foreground. A blooming rosebush to the right adds a vibrant floral dimension. The use of vivid colors and the balanced composition lend this work an atmosphere of calm and contentment, capturing the essence of a peaceful and contemplative moment.
Presentation
Born in Valenciennes, Jean-Pierre Lorand lives in Brussels. First an advertising designer, it is self-taught that he approaches his painting style. Classified painter of poetic reality by critic Stéphane Rey, he has exhibited since 1977, in Belgium and abroad.
Jean-Pierre Lorand plunges the viewer into a climate of poetry and serenity. With a consummate art of composition, he transports us in time and space. His works appear in numerous collections as well as in several illustrated books on Naive Art.
