Something Greater Than Me, 2026

Viktoriia Kolesnykova

The awareness of one's own depth begins with the realization that the inner world is far greater than anything we can fully know about ourselves.
Something Greater Than Me speaks to the moment when a person first senses the presence of something hidden beyond conscious awareness. It has no clear form and resists explanation, yet it quietly transforms the way we perceive ourselves. From that moment on, the conscious self can no longer be understood as the entirety of our inner life.
The painting marks the first step toward encountering one's own depths. It is an invitation to recognize that the inner world will always remain larger than our ability to fully comprehend it.

series Deep Within Myself
Depth is not a place. It is a way of seeing the world.
The Deep Within Myself series explores depth as an inner territory where the personal intersects with the archetypal. The realm of blue—from luminous light to near-impenetrable darkness—becomes a field of the unconscious, a space of memory, instinct, embodied knowledge, and primordial force. The series emerged from the experience of an inner descent and a gradual approach toward what initially inspired fear through its vastness and mystery.
In these works, depth is not only a psychological metaphor but also a world governed by its own laws. Human figures, water, archetypal beings, animals, and darkness coexist as equal manifestations of a single reality. They do not invite literal interpretation, nor are they reduced to symbols. Their presence creates a space where intuition, embodied memory, and rational knowledge exist side by side.
The image of the Witch runs throughout the series as an archetype of feminine presence. She neither resists the unknown nor seeks to master it. Her strength lies in the ability to remain close to what cannot be fully understood or explained.
The title Deep Within Myself refers not only to a journey inward but also to a way of living in relationship with that depth—without the need to dissolve it in explanations or strip it of its mystery. Within this space, fear gradually gives way to trust, and the unknown becomes part of lived experience.
