Description

This QR code work by Aurélien Guiho, inspired by Vincent van Gogh's , stands as a radical reinvention of the image of the self. Where the painter laid down thick, vibrant strokes to reveal his inner gaze, the contemporary creator opts for the geometric rigour of the digital. The face is no longer composed of pigments but of a constellation of pastel-coloured modules, encoded to be read by the human eye and the electronic eye alike.

In this transformation, the subject splits in two: on one side, Van Gogh's legacy — his quest for identity, his determination to give visible form to the torments and impulses of the soul; on the other, the technological age, in which identity is translated into data, signals, digitised information. The work thus becomes a bridge between two visual languages: the expressive, organic idiom of the nineteenth century and the abstract, systemic one of the twenty-first.

The QR code, ordinarily utilitarian, is here elevated to the status of icon. It reinvents the gesture of the self-portrait — no longer simply painting oneself, but encoding oneself, entering into a logic of reading and interpretation that is infinitely reproducible. By scanning the image, the viewer activates a hidden dimension, as though uncovering the artist's most private thoughts behind the material surface.

This renewal marks a major evolution: the self-portrait no longer merely represents the self, it becomes an interface, a space of dialogue between the human, the machine and artistic heritage. By fusing pictorial tradition with digital technology, the work questions the way we now exist, project ourselves and recognise ourselves in a world where an image must henceforth be legible to several kinds of gaze.

Presentation

The number, identified as the language specific to the consumer society, requires liveliness from the public. To understand, he must translate this coding.

Questions about mass consumption, the body of the object, or the environment evolve by the number, multiplied, accumulated, superimposed, deconstructed, bald, etc...

It is always a question of questioning the energy and economic needs of our contemporary societies and of visualizing the social, industrial and ecological stakes which result from the modes of production.

Use of techniques and supports of artistic expression of various and varied materials such as the 3D pencil, category grouping together the aesthetic activities of manipulation of forms and plastic volumes such as sculpture.
