Description
The gaze first falls on the thickness of the material. The paint piles up. It stretches in dense layers. Two figures emerge from an olive green background. Their features are sketched with force. The face on the left captures the light with touches of white. Beside it, a silhouette blends into the surrounding tone.
The contrast is established with the appearance of an earthy red. This warm color structures the body and creates a visual anchor point. The gesture is quick. The touch is raw. One senses a palpable tension beneath the surface.
The artist uses the knife or the brush to sculpt the canvas. The forms do not seek realism. They explore sensation. The rendering evokes a certain melancholy. The composition plays on the balance between shadow and clarity. The background remains textured. Slight variations of yellow come to illuminate the lower part of the painting. The whole ends with a red signature in the lower left corner.
Presentation
Ecole des beaux arts de Montévidéo, engraving apprenticeship. Considered the best boxer of the year in 1983 (middle-lightweight) Numerous exhibitions, in Uruguay, Brazil, Spain, Saintes.
Upon his release from the Saintes prison in 1996, Edgardo goes back to Uruguay. He entrusted the works created in prison to the prison's assistant.
1st prize in engraving at the Batuz foundation in 1999.
It was in 2002 that I met Edgardo Flores, through his lawyer. We decided to dedicate a retrospective to him, with all of his work.
This exhibition will be a great moment, a beautiful meeting between a true artist, and many amateurs or collectors who will have a real crush for his work!
