DESCRIPTION
Pause. Look deeper. Allow understanding to unfold.
Searching for Truth is an original acrylic painting on canvas by Indonesian artist Kang Samar, created in 2026 within his Wayang Kulit series.
The work explores the relationship between perception and understanding. For Samar, seeking truth requires patience, openness and the courage to question one's own assumptions. Its central reflection concerns the difference between an immediate impression and the insight that develops through sustained attention.
The artist draws on the visual world of Indonesian shadow puppetry to consider this inner process. Cultural imagery becomes a means of exploring conscience and the choices through which we interpret experience.
Searching for Truth invites viewers to approach the painting with curiosity. Its message encourages a thoughtful encounter, allowing room for uncertainty, discovery and a more attentive way of seeing.
The reverse bears the artist's handwritten inscription:
“Seeking the truth is not rushing to act - but clearing your sight, so you may see what truly is."
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Kang Samar was born in Surabaya, Indonesia, in 1976. His creative background encompasses painting, murals, sculpture, relief work, batik and applied design.
Through his Wayang Kulit series, he explores the inner life using expressive forms and symbolic imagery. His subjects include identity, conscience, devotion, love, truth and destiny.
Searching for Truth develops these concerns through a reflection on clarity, honest observation and the willingness to look beyond appearances.

Presentation
Kang Samar is an Indonesian painter born in 1976 in Surabaya, East Java. Inspired by wayang kulit, the traditional shadow theatre, he creates colourful paintings in which characters become expressions of love, courage, loyalty and inner conflict.
His figures inhabit intricate compositions filled with flowing lines, expressive faces and ornamental details. Brilliant yellows meet deep greens and luminous blues, while red accents bring intensity to the unfolding scene. The eye moves from one character to another, discovering relationships within a surface rich in movement.
At the heart of his practice is the belief that traditional stories can illuminate contemporary experience. His paintings explore the choices we make, the bonds we preserve and the tension between what we inherit and what we become. Works such as Destiny Matrix and Kindred Spirit invite viewers to find their own emotional connections within these symbolic encounters.
Samar brings more than fifteen years of experience in creative arts and craftsmanship to his painting. His activities have included murals in Central Java, garden reliefs and sculptures, batik production in Bali, and clothing design and screen printing. This varied background gives his work a sustained attention to handmade detail and the rhythm of patterned surfaces.
Presented by Abstract Art Gallery, Riga, Kang Samar offers a personal interpretation of Indonesian theatrical imagery, creating paintings that reward both immediate visual discovery and closer contemplation.
