Description
Study
Tree peonies are rather rare flowers. They are magnificent, but they do not last long. Once they have been cut, they need to be painted without delay. The transparent vase lends the still life a sense of lightness. A branch of lilac in the background adds a vivid touch. The artist calls this study “Pearl." It truly does resemble a pearl. Compositionally, it is anchored in the upper part of the canvas, while the lower part is left open and unburdened. It breathes.
The transparent vase immediately draws the eye. The artist has a remarkable ability to paint glass—this is one of his particular strengths. On his canvases, glass seems to resonate.
