Description
This painting is about things that cannot be stolen: talent, happiness, destiny, opportunities—or even extraordinary gifts.
The thief neither hides nor disguises himself. He acts with complete confidence because the owner and his wife remain silent. They know that what truly belongs to a person cannot be taken away.
The thief, however, does not know this.
At first glance, the goldfish seems like an obvious symbol. Yet what is not truly yours can never bring you happiness—not in this life, nor in the next.
Ultimately, the painting is about the difference between temporary possessions and eternal values.
