Dream, 2021

Sergiy Alymov

Perhaps the true focal point of the composition is the infant at the top of the painting—a symbol of the birth of something new.
It may signify a new way of seeing, a new perception, or a renewed attitude toward what has long been familiar.
In dreams, consciousness undergoes a transition to a higher level.
Renewal is an essential part of this process. Without it, life becomes stagnant.
Many elements of the painting resemble seeds, beans, or eggs—unopened forms that carry the potential of life within them.
Besides the infant, there are two other fully manifested figures.
The dominant figure is a woman wearing a headdress, while the secondary figure is a man in a sailor's cap. It is as though he steps aside, yielding his place to the Mother and assuming the role of an observer.
The sea symbolizes the world.
The ship represents the family.
The captain is the man who guides that ship.
This led me to the following analogy:
The Spirit impregnates Matter, then watches as its seed grows within the human soul, always ready to offer help when called upon.
The Mother is Matter.
The Ship is the Soul.
The Captain is the Spirit.
The Child represents the transformation of Matter—its passage to a new level of existence.
