Description
The Fish of My Memory explores the persistence of memories and their relationship with identity and the passage of time. The figure, surrounded by red fish, represents an inner space where memory, reality, and imagination intertwine. The fish act as symbols of memories that remain and reappear over time. The painting, executed in oil on canvas in 2026, presents a realistic figurative approach, visible brushstrokes, and a gestural application of paint. The palette, dominated by shades of red, creates an intense and immersive atmosphere, while contrasts of light and color add depth and expressiveness to the composition.
Presentation
Jesús Alejandro Faura Betancourt (1974) is a Cuban visual artist whose career has developed within the field of contemporary painting. He studied at the Elementary School of Art and the Professional School of Art in Las Tunas, Cuba, between 1986 and 1993, where he developed a solid technical and conceptual foundation.
His work lies between figuration and a free interpretation of reality, exploring memory, identity and emotional experience through figure, color, form and material. His pictorial language combines observation and introspection to create images of strong presence and sensitivity.
Throughout his career, he has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Cuba, Italy and Germany. His distinctions include the “Impresión" Salon Award (1988), the “Toulouse Lautrec" Salon Award (1992), and an Honorable Mention at the “La Plástica en Abril" Salon (2006).
Faura Betancourt's works are held in private collections in Europe and the United States. His work is present on various international art and auction platforms, expanding his reach among collectors in different markets and strengthening his presence in the international contemporary art circuit. He currently lives in Spain.
