Description
The Echo of Memory (2026), by artist Alejandro Faura, is an oil painting that explores the relationship between memory, identity, and permanence. Taking his earlier work, , as its point of departure, the painting establishes a visual and conceptual dialogue within an ongoing artistic investigation. The composition presents a profile rendered in grayscale, set against the intense vibrancy of a red background, while a dark-toned fish approaches the figure until it rests directly before the lips, creating an encounter charged with ambiguity and symbolic resonance. The fish, a recurring motif in Faura’s artistic universe, transcends its figurative presence to become an image associated with the traces of lived experience, the bonds that endure over time, and the elements of ourselves that persist even when they seem to fade. The proximity between the face and the fish suggests a silent form of communication, suspended between evocation and recognition, as though both shared a language beyond words. Red, dominant and expressive, becomes an emotional space that envelops the figure and heightens the tension between presence and absence, while the monochromatic treatment of the face introduces a sense of introspection and temporal distance. Technically, the work is executed in oil on canvas, employing visible, expressive brushwork that combines the definition of the face and fish with the gestural materiality of the background. Contrasts in tonal value, texture, and colour temperature reinforce the unity of the composition. In , Alejandro Faura revisits the essential elements of and carries them into a new narrative dimension, in which memory is not presented as a static recollection, but as a living presence that resurfaces, transforms our perception of the present, and participates in the construction of our identity.
