Description
1 - Description of the work
« Ardent Solstice » lays on raw jute a block of reds of almost telluric density: vermilion, carmine, cherry, ember orange, placed in wide streaks whose edges fray on the bare fiber. The color does not dominate the frame; it allows a margin of blonde weave, like a ground that would hold the fire. In this incandescent mass, turquoise flashes emerge, arranged at the top and on the left like unexpected freshens. Prune and wine-white threads, cream swirls, and gold flakes run on the surface; in the center, a ridge of granular impasto catches the grazing light. The base of the composition unravels into vertical brushstrokes: the heat does not recede, it rises, and the eye is drawn from the base to a saturated summit.
2 - Critical analysis
A manifesto canvas of the Excess & Splendors series, the work makes saturation a principle of construction rather than a simple overflow. Three forces balance in it: • Saturation vs. respiration: the red occupies almost the entire field, but the margin of raw jute allows the necessary space for the excess to remain legible. • Hot vs. cold: a few touches of turquoise are enough to prevent the burning from closing in on itself; they relaunch the depth. • Material vs. brilliance: the roughness of the fiber absorbs the pigment while gold reflects it; the light is born from this alternation of catch and reflection. « Ardent Solstice » demonstrates that excess can be architectured: the excess becomes a form of precision in it.
3 - Artistic and spiritual perspective
3.1 - In the work of GABAN In the Convergence period, the work opens a trajectory that is prolonged by Braises du soir, where the fire condenses into residue, then Organic Respiration, where it gives way to active void. It shares with Tissage d'été and Massif ardent the taste of a nature in excess, but it is distinguished by its solar tonality: it is no longer the vegetal that overflows, but the light itself.
3.2 - Artistic parentage The work is inscribed in the wake of gestural abstraction, where the landscape transforms into chromatic energy and where color is valued by its intensity more than by its form. It is distinguished by the role given to the support: the raw jute is not a background but an active partner, which retains, absorbs, and makes the pigment vibrate.
3.3 - Spiritual resonance: The solstice is a cosmic threshold: the moment when the sun seems to suspend its course before beginning its return. Human societies have always celebrated it, because it teaches that all fullness already contains its turning point. « Ardent Solstice » invites one to inhabit this culmination without becoming fixed in it: to welcome the light in all its intensity, knowing that it does not stay, that it is shared.
4 - Strengths of the work —
Conclusion A controlled chromatic density, constructed by layers and not by accumulation. A turquoise counterpoint that gives the burning its depth. A raw jute fully active, between catch and vibration. A manifesto piece of Excess & Splendors, emblematic of GABAN's signature on jute.

a breath that is no longer stifled. A vibration that imposes its necessity. Painter of pure emotion and living matter, GABAN emerges late, but with the certainty of being, finally, where everything converges.
Descended from a lineage of artists – grandson of Maxime Pierre André Verdier, painter and professor at the Beaux-Arts, and son of Michel Verdier, pathologist and leatherworker – GABAN carries in his veins the memory of gestures, the rigor of the gaze, and the freedom of pigments. But it is outside the academies that his work takes shape. A few courses, quickly abandoned. The essential is elsewhere: in the clash of colors, the visceral drive of the gesture, the tension between surface and depth. Never copy reality. Pierce it. Feel it. Invent it. With GABAN, emotion prevails over figuration, texture over line. His studios, in Paris and Aix-en-Provence, are sanctuaries. On one side a setting built for her by her partner, where the silent metamorphosis of an demanding and exposed Parisian life takes place, towards an inner fertility. There, the Ithaque house park unfolds its infinite palette of greens, ochres, wet shadows. Nature is not a source of inspiration: it is a matrix, a partner, a living double. On the other, his Parisian studio where the reflections of the sun on the Parisian rooftops are as many mirrors of souls, fertile ground for his creations. GABAN, a name chosen with poise by a woman who fully embraces herself but refuses assignments. Ambition is not gendered: to become a great artist, to sell his works during his lifetime, to exist in matter and in the market. That the art history is predominantly masculine is not a constraint, it is a field to reinvent. Appearing in painting in 2013 in a moment of assumed fracture with conventions and self-censorship, GABAN enters creation by breaking through. His period “EMERGENCE" (2013-2017) is dense, mineral, tumultuous. The canvases bear the stigmas of excess, of inner chaos, of flaws as much as of the will to extract oneself. The material is raw, sometimes black, incised, like scorched earth still smoking. Since 2025, a new era is taking hold: the period “CONVERGENCE", oriented towards calming, acceptance, openness. The colors broaden, the forms breathe, the gestures lighten without ever losing intensity. GABAN no longer seeks: GABAN is. And each canvas says it with elegance and power. GABAN does not paint to adorn, but to speak. To speak the dazzling beauty of the living, the subterranean struggles of the soul, and that quest for an always unstable balance between demand, freedom, and humanity.
