Description
A surreal encounter unfolds within a mundane setting. A large elephant wanders calmly past a brightly lit supermarket. The scene captures a strange harmony between nature and urban commerce. Pale pinks and soft yellows bathe the canvas in a dreamlike glow. This oil painting transforms a daily routine into a poetic vision. The artist employs a delicate touch to blend the animal into the cityscape. Figures linger in the background, blurred and ghostly. Their presence adds a layer of social observation to the composition. Light reflects softly off the pavement, creating a shimmering atmosphere. The contrast between the massive creature and the sterile architecture evokes a sense of quiet wonder. Every brushstroke contributes to a feeling of lightness and serenity. The composition balances the weight of the animal with the openness of the sky. This artwork examines the intersection of the wild and the domesticated. It invites the viewer to rethink the boundaries of the city. The gaze settles on the soft textures of the elephant's skin against the hard lines of the storefront.
Presentation
Teppei Ikehila is a Japanese artist born in 1978 who lives & works in Tokyo, Japan. He is graduated from Shimane University in 2001. Since 2000, he has held many private exhibitions at the Shimane Art Museum, Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery for project N, and H.P France Window Gallery among others. He was selected for the Taro Okamoto Award for Contemporary Art in 2013 and the VOCA exhibition in the Ueno Royal Museum in 2017. He is now involved in art festivals in NY and Miami and is receiving attention from overseas. He has produced many works at workshops and is working as an instructor at the Tokyo University where he organized at Komaba Museum a special exhibition "The boundary Draw ⇄ Cross" in 2018. He has recently published "TOKYO MERMAID PRINCESS" that introduces Tokyo with new interpretation.
