Description

Series: Vacuum Tubes and Consciousness

“Ancora I" is a major work in Carles Prat-Placis's study of technological “inner radiance." This photograph captures an antique vacuum tube—a silent witness to a bygone electronic age—resting on a draped metal base whose internal geometry echoes its own.

The artist explores the concept of “energy resistance": the moment when a physical object ceases to be mere matter and becomes a vessel of consciousness. The anchor symbol (“UOS") clearly visible on the tube's base acts as a metaphorical weight, anchoring this ethereal and luminous artifact in the physical world.

The work establishes a bridge between the macro-energy of the Canigó massif (known for its natural radium) and the micro-energy of the cathode. By isolating the tube in a deep black void, Prat-Placis invites the viewer to an intimate encounter with the invisible pulsations that once animated the world. Technical Excellence

For a museum-quality experience, this work is produced using the most advanced archival technologies:

Paper: Hahnemühle Baryta paper, a thick, fiber-based paper offering exceptional black depth and a velvety surface that mimics traditional silver gelatin prints.

Canon LUCIA PRO II pigment printing. This technology allows for the reproduction of the finest details of the filaments and metallic textures with surgical precision.

Finish: The use of Chroma Optimizer ensures uniform light reflection across the entire surface, essential for a work that plays so heavily on areas of shadow.

Presentation

Born in 1969, a self-taught photographer, Carles bought his first camera at the age of 14. Two years later, he made his first photographic exhibition. Freelance photographer for several newspapers, photo-journalist for artistic events, passionate about nature where he finds an inexhaustible source of inspiration.

In 1999 he founded MAG Grup, a company dedicated to industrial and artistic photography, a high quality printing service and the creation of websites.

Eight years later he moved to Ceret (French Catalonia) and founded MAG Arts, where he is developing the more artistic aspects of his work as a photographer, graphic designer, webmaster and arts collaborater.

« As a photographer, he takes off on his motorbike on the hunt for the image, the moment…., spending hours immersed in his universe, where he encounters the subjects of his compositions. In many of his oeuvres, Carles portrays images that are also found in the Japanese aesthetic of Wabisabi in the way that his photographs capture the largely unnoticed beauty of the simple, modest and humble that is all around us. They show us the impermanence of things and the beauty of the old, worn and decomposing. Many images are captured from an unusual angle forcing the viewer to look at things from a new perspective. He invites the viewer to see with different eyes…, he shows us images that highlight graphic shapes using light, shadow and simple lines. »
