Untitled V, Untitled VI and Untitled IV Triptych, 2019

Mauricio Velez

In this series the artist found that the rocks were so round that they looked like prehistoric holes, each one telling a story and reflecting a bit of her soul. Mauricio Velez's photographs seeks to refine the viewer's sensitivity and perception of art and the human body, elevating these elements to an aesthetic realm that can inspire, disturb, or provoke reflection. His imagery confronts the audience with themes that resonate deeply, encouraging introspection and dialogue. Vélez's work spans a diverse range of subjects, from fundamental human concerns such as good and evil or life and death, to vivid portrayals of Colombian society through portraits of its most iconic figures. His socially engaged projects tackle complex issues like violence and conflict, transforming controversial topics into visual narratives that advocate for change. Notable series such as Half Angels, Half Demons and Portraits of Society stand out as pivotal contributions, with the latter becoming a key visual resource for promoting Colombian identity on an international stage.
