This print is from the book "OVERGROUND, déroutants voyageurs", 2006, Bze & Tomski, Paris, Editions Alternatives.
The image captures a fragment of a body, a bare stomach belted with denim. Black and white accentuates the contrast of the materials and the texture of the fabric. In the center, a black ink pattern blooms like a dark star. This graphic sign dialogues with human anatomy.
The framing consists of spontaneous writings that run along the edges of the composition. These handwritten annotations recall the aesthetic of graffiti and urban culture. The text becomes a plastic element in its own right.
The approach mixes photography and contemporary calligraphy. The gaze focuses on the moment, between minimalism and raw expression. This unique print, made in 2004, explores the boundary between sociological document and graphic abstraction. The composition emphasizes a precise balance between the grain of the skin and the rigor of the ink line on fine art paper.
Presentation
Bze has been tagging since he was 12. He writes on his school table, his clothes, the walls and public transport in his environment.
In parallel with university studies in photography and cinema, Bze explored the underground corners of Europe with his film camera, hunting for the aesthetics of the road, the street, the margins and its people. Since 1999, through exhibitions and slideshows between Granada and Rotterdam, he has shared his thousands of slides. In 2006, Bze finalized his photographic journey with a book called Overground, confusing travelers published by Éditions Alternatives. A unique, almost sociological look, revealed by a selection of more than 600 photographs of the counterculture with its communities, demonstrations, squats, free parties...
Following his meeting with the artist Nef, they created the Nef&bze© graphic studio (focused on electronic music).
Returning to his roots, the aesthetics of the letter, Bze devotes himself in the studio to painting on canvas or paper. His contemporary calligraphy, Neo-writer, tends towards minimal abstractionism.
An artistic journey marked by diversity and authenticity, a thirst to share.
