Description
Mauricio Velez's photographs seeks to refine the viewer's sensitivity and perception of art and the human body, elevating these elements to an aesthetic realm that can inspire, disturb, or provoke reflection. His imagery confronts the audience with themes that resonate deeply, encouraging introspection and dialogue. Vélez’s work spans a diverse range of subjects, from fundamental human concerns such as good and evil or life and death, to vivid portrayals of Colombian society through portraits of its most iconic figures.
His socially engaged projects tackle complex issues like violence and conflict, transforming controversial topics into visual narratives that advocate for change. Notable series such as Half Angels, Half Demons and Portraits of Society stand out as pivotal contributions, with the latter becoming a key visual resource for promoting Colombian identity on an international stage.

Presentation
Mauricio Velez was born and lives in Colombia. He was trained at the European Institute of Design in Italy. Since then, he has worked on a large number of projects in Latin America, the United States and Spain, offering, through his personal prism - images which he seeks to refine the sensitivity and perception of the viewer towards religious icons, art, and the human body.
His work confronts the viewer with a sense of aesthetics that balances between the spiritually inspired and the disturbed.
