About the artwork

Artwork sold in perfect condition

Roamcouch (b. Ryo Ogaya, 1976, Japan) “Moon Child” (2020) Limited edition, 17-color, hand-pulled screen print on 310 gsm fine art paper. The sheet measures 34 x 24, has been signed and numbered (40/150) by the artist, and placed in a black metal frame measuring 36.25 x 24.25 inches. Depicted is the outside of a dream house with children positioned in various locations (on the roof, chimney, a ladder, etc.). Some are carrying paint rollers and have evidently been “tagging” the outside of the house with colorful words and symbols. Now the figures on the roof are reaching up in the sky to expand the enhancement of their environment by painting the moon with a rainbow of graffiti. A similar image was the result of an original collaboration between Roamcouch and artist Chengxiang Shang. This version is Roamcouch’s own personal interpretation of the project.

Japanese artists

Roamcouch/Ryo Ogawa(1976) was born in Japan and based stencil artist. Through the designer, it began to make the work on the street from about 10 years ago.

Roamcouch is a Japanese stencil artist, and an urban, contemporary master in his own right. He brings new meaning to “stencilism," and produces meticulously detailed and rich stencil paintings on canvas, and clean-cut screen prints on paper.

Some describe his work ethic as that of a modern master, because he can take up to a year to create one piece of his work. His stencils involve an unfathomable and highly professional level of intricacy, with certain images requiring fifty different layers of stencil, which are all hand-drawn and hand-cut. His works involve such detail yet manage to portray a feeling of romanticism and fluidity, through the use of his selected subject matter.

Roamcouch was a former designer and resided in a more corporate setting. Several years ago he was diagnosed with a serious illness, which made him rethink his life and career. It stimulated Roamcouch to drastically change his life by pursuing his dream – becoming an artist.
