Description
This bold work captures a moment of commercial chaos in a supermarket. Dominated by a palette of grays, it stages shelves filled with products, accentuating the banal environment of daily life. In the center, a character is on the ground, crushed by a bright red splash of the message "Price crash!". This striking contrast immediately draws the eye and prompts reflection on mass consumption and its implications. Details such as scattered debris and hanging signs add a dynamic to the scene, reinforcing the feeling of disorder. The subtle artistic interpretation critiques the impact of forced price drops, inviting reflection on our relationship with consumption and modern capitalism. A work that challenges and does not leave indifferent.
Screenprint published by Pictures on wall (POW)
The print includes 2, 3 light stains (visible on the last two photos) on the lower part but this is a work today and we offer the framing.
Presentation
Dran, born in 1980 in Toulouse, is a French street artist renowned for his satirical and poetic works that explore the failings of contemporary society. After training at the Beaux-Arts, he moved away from academicism to immerse himself in the street art movement, notably as part of the DMV team.
His unique style blends gentleness and provocation, violence and humor, through characters confronting the harshness and absurdity of the world around them. Recurring themes such as the environment, consumerism, politics, and religion are dissected in his creations.
Dran uses a variety of techniques and media, including illustrations, drawings , stencils, lithographs, paintings, prints , and photographs. His works are famous for being used on commercially available cardboard.
In 2023, Dran achieved notable success with the auction of his work "Stradivarus" (2017), a 100 x 81.5 cm oil on canvas, which sold for €106,600, surpassing its initial estimate of €60,000 to €80,000. This sale highlighted Dran's rise in the urban art market, cementing his position as one of the most influential contemporary artists.
In 2024, Dran participated in several international exhibitions, strengthening his presence on the global art scene. His works continue to captivate a diverse audience, combining social criticism and aesthetics, and are sought after by collectors and institutions. In 2025, he participated in the 9th edition of the Street For Kids charity event, exhibiting his creations at the Hôtel Mona Bismarck in Paris on March 24.
