Description

Maye - Camargue Gallop, 2018

Original Digigraph, limited edition of 500 copies, signed and numbered.

Xav Art Emotion Gallery is pleased to present this superb digigraph by Maye, a leading figure in the French urban art scene. A true invitation to a journey between dream and poetry, this work perfectly illustrates the artist's unique universe, where elongated figures move through worlds suspended between reality and imagination.

Printed using digigraphy on fine art paper, this limited edition of 500 prints offers exceptional print quality, reproducing all the subtle textures, gradations, and details of the original drawing. Certified, signed, and numbered, it is an ideal collector's item for enthusiasts of contemporary art and figurative street art. Digigraphy is a recognized fine art printing process, designed for limited editions by artists and meeting strict criteria for quality and durability.

Time seems to have stood still.

A young woman, her face etched with melancholy, rides a mechanical horse whose body bears the marks of time. Yet, despite the cracks, the exposed gears, and the wounds, the animal continues its journey with an almost unreal grace.

In Maye's work, nothing is ever completely alive or completely inert. The beings seem to have emerged from a dream where fragility becomes strength and where scars tell a story rather than testify to weakness.

The pastel colors immerse the viewer in a silent, almost cinematic atmosphere. The pink of the sky interacts with the blue of the horse's coat and creates a feeling of calm, while the horse's movement evokes an escape to an inaccessible elsewhere.

This work speaks of inner journeys, resilience, and imperfect beauty. It invites each viewer to project their own story onto this scene suspended between fantasy tale and contemporary poetry.

Maye's universe is immediately recognizable.

His elongated characters, hybrid animals and minimalist settings compose a unique visual language in the landscape of contemporary street art.

In this composition, the horse becomes a symbol of movement, memory, and transmission. Its cracked body reveals mechanical elements, reminding us that time transforms without ever completely erasing what we are.

The rider, for her part, seems to guide as much as she accompanies this creature towards an uncertain future. Her averted gaze leaves room for interpretation and gives the work its full emotional power.

The mastery of drawing, the fineness of the lines and the delicate gradations testify to an almost classical approach to portraiture, enriched by a contemporary aesthetic influenced by graffiti, illustration and surrealism.

This duality between gentleness and tension is what makes the work so rich.

Presentation

Maye is a highly regarded self-taught graffiti artist, known for his distinctive style and bold approach to urban art. Developing a passion for drawing from a young age, Maye quickly caught the attention of his teachers and peers with his mature, dynamic artistic expression. In the early 2000s, Maye embraced graffiti as his primary medium, using aerosol paint to create powerful, striking works that blend street culture with a fine art sensibility. His work is defined by strong, fluid lines, dynamic compositions, and a deep understanding of both traditional graffiti techniques and modern influences. Influenced by the vibrant Montpellier art scene and collaborations with various creative artists, Maye carved out a unique space for himself in the urban art world, elevating graffiti from mere street art to a respected contemporary art form.

In recent years, Maye's work has continued to evolve and gain international acclaim. He has showcased his innovative approach to graffiti in major cities worldwide, including Paris, Berlin, and New York, where his work integrates digital elements, mixed media techniques, and cutting-edge urban aesthetics. Maye's collaborations with contemporary artists from various disciplines have helped bridge the gap between street art and fine art, creating groundbreaking projects that push the boundaries of creative expression. His large-scale murals have become prominent in public spaces, known for their striking visual impact and social commentary. As his influence spreads, Maye's art increasingly explores themes of identity, transformation, and the intersection of urban life and modern culture, resonating deeply with audiences globally.

Maye's journey as an artist is a testament to his relentless drive and innovative spirit. His rapid development and ability to continuously push the boundaries of graffiti have made him a key figure in the global urban art movement. His work has been featured in numerous urban art festivals across Europe and internationally, further cementing his status as a leading graffiti artist of his generation. In 2012 and 2013, Maye collaborated with fellow artist Mummies on a large-scale colorization project in Nouméa, transforming the city's streets into a vibrant public canvas. This project showcased Maye's ability to connect with communities and bring his art into public spaces, engaging viewers in dynamic, participatory experiences.

As Maye continues to push the limits of artistic expression, his work remains highly sought after by collectors and art enthusiasts. Expanding beyond traditional graffiti, Maye's explorations in digital and mixed media art have garnered attention for their innovation and depth. With his unique fusion of street culture, graffiti, and contemporary art, Maye is shaping the future of urban art. His works are featured in galleries, exhibitions, and public spaces around the world, securing his place as one of the most influential graffiti artists in the global art scene. As Maye's career continues to flourish, his art inspires future generations of artists while solidifying his legacy as a visionary in the urban art movement.

By expanding his artistic reach and continuing to innovate, Maye is set to make an even greater impact on the future of urban art, ensuring his place at the forefront of the contemporary graffiti scene.
