Description
AZ108 (Home Street Home), 2015. Artist's proof of /10. Paper: Conqueror High White Wove 300 g/m2.
This striking work features a complex pattern inspired by traditional earthenware tiles. Dominated by shades of blue and white, it harmoniously combines precise geometry with the traditional art of weaving. In the centre, the inscription ‘HOME STREET HOME’ draws attention, playing on the notions of home and street, evoking a universal sense of belonging. The frame is adorned with symmetrical, intertwining motifs, similar to delicate rosettes, adding depth and a captivating visual rhythm. The meticulous detail and regularity of the design reveal an impressive technical mastery. This work brilliantly merges tradition and modernity, offering a subtle reflection on our conception of the home as a personal and public space. A masterpiece that invites contemplation and introspection.
Presentation
An accomplished graphic designer and illustrator, Add Fuel (Diogo Machado, 1980) has a solid reputation as a graphic artist. After creating a unique visual universe, populated by sci-fi inspired and fun creatures, the Portuguese artist recently redirected his attention to reinterpreting the language of traditional tile design and Portuguese azulejo in particular. Bringing together irony and humor, his vector drawings or stencil-based street interventions reveal awe-inspiring complexity and masterful attention to detail.
