Description
Art and literature unite in this rare work. This artist's book proposes a dialogue between text and image. The aesthetic is based on geometric and colorful abstraction.
The landscape is fragmented into sharp planes. A deep red is adjacent to a tender green and a serene blue. Yellow brings a punctual light to the composition. Each color defines a space, an emotion, a memory.
The technique mixes printmaking and engraving. The line is precise, the surfaces are saturated. The whole evokes nature with a controlled economy of means. The composition plays on the balance of masses and the purity of tones.
This collection published in 2021 testifies to a constant search for form. The textured paper welcomes the pigments with finesse. The book is presented in an olive green box that protects the pages and emphasizes the precious dimension of the object.
Presentation
Etel Adnan (born February 24, 1925) was a Lebanese-American artist, poet, and essayist. Born in Beirut, Lebanon, Adnan studied philosophy at the Sorbonne in Paris and later pursued a career as a writer. Adnan's paintings often incorporated bold, expressive brushstrokes and a vivid color palette influenced by her experiences of nature and the landscapes of her native Lebanon. Her works reflect a deep connection to place and an exploration of memory and identity.
Adnan's art has been exhibited in prominent galleries and museums worldwide, including the Serpentine Galleries in London and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Throughout her career, she has received numerous awards and honors for her artistic and literary contributions, solidifying her status as a highly influential figure in contemporary art and literature.
