Description
Lithograph by Enrique Santana, the Spanish-born, Chicago-based realist painter, 2026; limited edition, sheet 56 x 45 cm. Santana has made the architecture and light of Chicago the central theme of his work, approaching the city with a precise, luminous realism attentive above all to reflections, water and atmosphere. "East River I" turns instead to New York: the tidal strait that separates Manhattan from Brooklyn and Queens, spanned by the great nineteenth- and twentieth-century bridges and bordered by a skyline that the water doubles and dissolves. The motif gives the artist exactly what he looks for: a long band of architecture set against a moving, reflective surface that doubles and dissolves it. Lithography adds a graphic, hand-drawn quality to this play of light and surface. A recent edition, in excellent condition.
Presentation
Enrique Santana is an internationally acclaimed painter from Lepe (Huelva), whose distinguished career includes the Medal of Andalusia (2001) and the Gold Medal of the City of Lepe (2000). He left his hometown at a young age to build a career as a painter, developing a realist-impressionist style. Over the years he has alternated between the landscapes of Chicago, where he lived for almost three decades and kept a studio for 25 years, and the Atlantic Ocean and the luminous coast of Huelva, a region he admires and actively promotes. Water has remained a constant subject in his work: Lake Michigan reminded him of the sea of his native Huelva. His paintings have been acquired for public and private collections around the world, from Helsinki to San Francisco, with a particularly notable presence in Chicago, and are regularly shown in leading galleries and art fairs in Europe and America.
