Description
This intriguing painting presents a unique sculptural scene, framed by warm wood. At its center, an assemblage of small wooden statues rests on a piece of driftwood, lending a natural and organic touch. The figures are meticulously carved, representing various human postures, evoking a gathering or a mystical ceremony. Against a vibrant yellow background, these sculptures gain luminosity, creating a fascinating contrast with their textured brown material. The work plays on the juxtaposition of the natural and the artificial, capturing the essence of humanity through the simplicity of the materials. The thick, finely crafted frame reinforces the idea of a tribute or a display case dedicated to these miniature beings, prompting reflection on the nature of community and individuality. Every detail contributes to a composition that invites the viewer to consider the timelessness of human relationships.
Presentation
Catherine Eon, a sculptor who works with driftwood and other reclaimed wood that has been 'abandoned', lives in Les Sables d'Olonne.
Drawn to these materials, her walks along the seashore led her to collect and then work with these pieces of wood, each one carrying with it a past, a journey, a sensitivity, a memory... Her minimalist sculptures remain faithful to the already fragile material, creating silhouettes that wander, meet, wait... Whether in bas-reliefs or sculptures, all these pieces of wood, large and small, bark, planks and plywood gleaned from the beach, are 'bits of life', souls, stories and faces marked by the scars of life and the passing of time. They remind us of their primary nature as wood, noble or not, 'the tree as a symbol of life', guardian of our memory and its close relationship with man. The important place of the tree in the work attempts to raise our awareness of environmental issues.
