Description
I found the pattern before I found the shape. Spalted birch carries black lines drawn by fungi, and I wanted a form that would let those lines run rather than sit still.
I power carve, which means electric tools and a lot of subtraction, working until the piece holds one continuous upward curve. Then ink, which behaves less predictably than paint. It floods the soft grain and resists the hard, so the colour follows the wood's own history instead of my intention.
The result is somewhere between a leaf, a flame and nothing in particular. That ambiguity is the point.
Unique piece on a dark base, hand-signed. 50 cm.
Presentation
I am a contemporary artist who primarily works with wooden sculptures using a method called "power carving," which means that I use electric hand tools to sculpt the form. My art is characterized by soft organic shapes inspired by nature, where I like to explore the abstract.
The experimental is a strong driving force in my creative process. I work with a variety of techniques to enhance the expression in my works, including the use of verdigris copper, staining, and painting with acrylics. By combining these materials and methods, unique and innovative sculptures are created.
My works are distinguished by their lively surfaces and unexpected details, where the natural qualities of the wood interact with my experimental vision. Through my sculptures, I want to arouse curiosity and invite reflection on the forms of nature and the possibilities of materials.
