Description
A row of dots still reads as a line. That is what the copper is doing here.
The body is plum wood, power carved into a tall curving form and polished until the grain runs warm amber along its length. Set into the surface is a sequence of small copper spheres, oxidized to verdigris turquoise, spaced along the contour so the eye joins them into a single traced path around the piece.
Turquoise against amber is about as far apart as two colours get, which is why the dots hold their line instead of dissolving into the wood. Follow them around and they describe the form more precisely than the silhouette does.
50 cm, unique, hand-signed.
Presentation
I am a contemporary artist who primarily works with wooden sculptures using a method called "power carving," which means that I use electric hand tools to sculpt the form. My art is characterized by soft organic shapes inspired by nature, where I like to explore the abstract.
The experimental is a strong driving force in my creative process. I work with a variety of techniques to enhance the expression in my works, including the use of verdigris copper, staining, and painting with acrylics. By combining these materials and methods, unique and innovative sculptures are created.
My works are distinguished by their lively surfaces and unexpected details, where the natural qualities of the wood interact with my experimental vision. Through my sculptures, I want to arouse curiosity and invite reflection on the forms of nature and the possibilities of materials.
