Description
An undine is a water spirit. Paracelsus named her after the Latin word for a wave, and the old stories say she has no soul until she takes solid form, which means giving up being water to get one.
I did not start with that. I started with a piece of Greek olive, which is dense and crooked and fights every cut, and carved it into a narrow standing form. Then I cut cells into the surface and dry brushed them pale blue, so the paint catches only the raised edges and the blue sits down inside the wood.
The name arrived once I saw what it looked like: something fluid that had been made to hold still.
White marble base. 30 cm, unique, hand-signed.
Presentation
I am a contemporary artist who primarily works with wooden sculptures using a method called "power carving," which means that I use electric hand tools to sculpt the form. My art is characterized by soft organic shapes inspired by nature, where I like to explore the abstract.
The experimental is a strong driving force in my creative process. I work with a variety of techniques to enhance the expression in my works, including the use of verdigris copper, staining, and painting with acrylics. By combining these materials and methods, unique and innovative sculptures are created.
My works are distinguished by their lively surfaces and unexpected details, where the natural qualities of the wood interact with my experimental vision. Through my sculptures, I want to arouse curiosity and invite reflection on the forms of nature and the possibilities of materials.
