Description
In this new body of work, VAM continues her exploration of the living bond between body and nature, pushing the series La greffe (The Graft) toward a more sculptural and spatial dimension. The photographic surface gives way to layers of tracing paper, bark, and skin that veil and reveal at once.
Here, the body withdraws, becoming a presence suggested rather than exposed. The translucent paper acts like a membrane, a protective layer through which fragments of flesh and texture appear in delicate tension. The birch bark, sewn with red thread, remains the vital element, both wound and protection, scar and skin.
These compositions evoke a slow metamorphosis: the human figure seems absorbed by the organic matter, merging with it in a quiet, almost sacred process of concealment and rebirth. VAM transforms the act of covering into a gesture of care, a way of preserving what is fragile and healing through layering.
Presentation
French visual artist VAM oscillates between the archetypes of the feminine and the drifts of the Anthropocene.
Employing a variety of mediums – video, installations, sewing, photography, engraving... – she explores distortions of self-image through an intergenerational lens.
Her recent works focus particularly on the connection to the plant world, developing hypotheses of genetic mutation and human/nature hybridization.
She exhibits regularly in France and internationally.
