Description
This artwork is a striking portrait featuring a subject with expressive, bold red lips and penetrating eyes, capturing the viewer's attention immediately. Painted with delicate watercolor strokes, the artwork utilizes a soft, muted palette that contrasts beautifully with the vividness of the lips and eyes. The subject’s hair is depicted with loose, fluid lines, accentuating a sense of movement and natural grace. A subtle hint of color is employed for the clothing, suggesting a refined casualness. The signature ‘Alexe’ elegantly graces the lower right corner, adding an element of authenticity and personal touch. The minimalist style, combined with the expressive detail, creates a harmonious balance, making this piece both contemporary and timeless. Displayed in a sleek black frame, it draws focus to the subject's intriguing expression and stylistic execution, offering a captivating addition to any modern art collection.
Presentation
The worlds of fashion, society and pop culture are explored through the illustrations of Manuel Santelices, a Chilean artist and journalist living and working in New York for the last 20 years. After writing stories about style, design, art and politics for a number of magazines, including the Spanish editions of Elle, Harper's Bazaar and Esquire, and being fashion writer in New York for Vogue Mexico and Latin American for 7 years, Manuel decided to focus his attention to illustration, painting mostly with watercolors the same characters and events he covered as a journalist.
