Thomas Chedeville

France Born in: 1979
Translation in progress

Born in 1979 in Paris, he started working in his early twenties as an illustrator and graphic designer. He then worked as an artistic director in advertising. In 2009 he created the Agency ‘Hysteric Studios’ specialised in creative content.

He is using to draw many different Tools and material. His illustrations are a perfect balance between digital et hand painting techniques.

Whilst he has always painted and continues to draw, collage has always been his passion. At a time when we are submerged daily in pictures, advertising, posters and logos… Thomas Chedeville is looking to transform these visual concepts, using them as raw materials, as a base and sub frame to his artwork. He finds his inspiration in the streets of Paris, collating posters and flyers whilst also using magazines and newspapers… a perfect illustration of the times in which we live and of our society.

After that he composes his canvases by sticking, ripping, drawing and painting in order to try recreate and replicate the emulsion and madness of our society. He also aims to drop in a character, an icon to each canvas, like someone lost in this media fuelled world. These icons are from common culture: old Hollywood posters, artists, musicians, animals, they are all living in his work. Many materials and mediums are used, acrylic, spray, ink, paper, vernish etc…

This overall mix plays with world advertising and our imagination… both contrasting myth and reality. His work plays with our society culture to tell us a story. His artistic influences are Drew Struzan, Jacques Villegié, Raymond Hains, Basquiat, Chuck Close or Andrew Salgado. His colourful and graphic work, is indirectly inspired by the advertising in which he has worked for several years.
