Description
'Daydream' captures a dramatic, atmospheric sky over a serene water body. Dominated by broad, sweeping brushstrokes, the piece showcases a dynamic interplay of colours, with vibrant yellows and soft pinks juxtaposed against deep blues and purples. The upper portion of the painting features textured clouds that seem to drift across the canvas, creating a sense of movement and depth.
The reflective surface of the water subtly mirrors the sky's hues, enhancing the painting's cohesion and symmetry. The horizon, though abstract, provides a grounding line that divides the composition, drawing the viewer's gaze across the scene. This piece uniquely balances abstraction with natural elements, inviting contemplation of nature's ephemeral beauty.
Presentation
Rebecca is a Scottish artist whose work explores atmospheric landscapes shaped by shifting weather, light, and mood. Drawing inspiration from the skies, coastlines, and terrain of East Lothian and the Scottish Highlands, her paintings capture fleeting moments of light breaking through cloud formations and dramatic skies.
Her process begins with observing a place and the emotion it evokes. Reference photographs taken on location act as prompts in the studio, where she paints directly onto canvas or linen without preliminary sketches. Working in acrylic, her initial marks remain visible in the finished work, lending immediacy and confidence to her compositions.
Rebecca studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Edinburgh College and has been exhibiting and selling her work since 2004. She continues to show her paintings in galleries and exhibitions across Scotland, alongside working on private commissions.
