Description
'Gruinard Bay'captures a scene of the Second Coast of Gruinard Bay in Wester Ross. It portrays the dramatic interplay between land, sea, and sky. The scene depicts a serene beach, where gentle waves meet a sandy shore. The foreground features a winding path leading the viewer's eye toward the horizon, enhancing the depth and intimacy of the scene. Above, a tumultuous sky dominates with swirling clouds in shades of blue, white, and gray, hinting at an approaching storm, injecting tension into the tranquil landscape.
The dark silhouette of distant hills provides a stark contrast, anchoring the viewer amidst nature's raw beauty. The artist's masterful use of colour blends seamlessly to evoke the fluidity of water and the transient nature of weather. This composition is a poignant reminder of nature's ever-changing and powerful forces, encapsulating the sublime beauty and latent unpredictability of coastal landscapes.
Presentation
Rebecca is a Scottish artist whose work explores atmospheric landscapes shaped by shifting weather, light, and mood. Drawing inspiration from the skies, coastlines, and terrain of East Lothian and the Scottish Highlands, her paintings capture fleeting moments of light breaking through cloud formations and dramatic skies.
Her process begins with observing a place and the emotion it evokes. Reference photographs taken on location act as prompts in the studio, where she paints directly onto canvas or linen without preliminary sketches. Working in acrylic, her initial marks remain visible in the finished work, lending immediacy and confidence to her compositions.
Rebecca studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Edinburgh College and has been exhibiting and selling her work since 2004. She continues to show her paintings in galleries and exhibitions across Scotland, alongside working on private commissions.
