Description
'Lammermuirs in colour' - Colourful view of the Lammermuirs in East Lothian.
In this captivating landscape painting, a serene winter scene unfolds beneath a vast, dynamic sky. Snow-draped hills stretch across the canvas, their gentle undulations creating a soothing rhythm. The sky, alive with swirling clouds, transitions from the soft hues of dusk to a vibrant blue, capturing the fleeting beauty of sunset.
Bold strokes convey the brisk movement of clouds, tinged with warm oranges and pinks as they catch the light. In the foreground, a cluster of barren trees stands resolute, their dark, intricate branches stark against the pristine white snow. The contrast between the tranquil earth and the restless sky is striking, drawing the viewer's eye upward. This artwork masterfully balances tranquility and drama, evoking a sense of peace and renewal while showcasing the artist's adeptness at colour and composition.
Presentation
Rebecca is a Scottish artist whose work explores atmospheric landscapes shaped by shifting weather, light, and mood. Drawing inspiration from the skies, coastlines, and terrain of East Lothian and the Scottish Highlands, her paintings capture fleeting moments of light breaking through cloud formations and dramatic skies.
Her process begins with observing a place and the emotion it evokes. Reference photographs taken on location act as prompts in the studio, where she paints directly onto canvas or linen without preliminary sketches. Working in acrylic, her initial marks remain visible in the finished work, lending immediacy and confidence to her compositions.
Rebecca studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Edinburgh College and has been exhibiting and selling her work since 2004. She continues to show her paintings in galleries and exhibitions across Scotland, alongside working on private commissions.
