Description
A nervous trait captures the moment of a posing session. The pencil imposes itself with raw spontaneity. The artist here favors the direct gesture and immediacy.
The scene takes place in a studio bathed in hatched lines. A man with dark glasses observes his subject. A nude woman, seen from behind, sits calmly. The dialogue between the model and the creator settles in an attentive silence.
The space is structured by contrasts of deep grays and blacks. A second painting, hung on the wall, echoes the physical presence of the model. The furniture, a tufted armchair and an easel, anchors the composition in a professional and intimate setting.
The composition refuses artifice. It gives way to intuition and the truth of the moment. The graphic rendering emphasizes the materiality of the support and the precision of the gaze. The drawing ends with a signature and the date 2026.
Presentation
Thomas Groslier was born in Amiens in 1957.
In 1976, he entered the Beaux-Arts of Valence.
During his training years, he was interested in the works of Delvaux, Gromaire, Balthus, De Chirico, Van Gogh and Fragonard.
Starting in 1983, he develops a figurative work drawing from classicism. His subjects are multiple: portraits, landscapes, still lifes, and genre scenes.
His painting is characterized by a smooth and precise execution, as well as a generally restricted palette, dominated by blues, grays, and greens.
The artist favors small formats, more intimate ones, and develops different techniques. He works mainly with oil and tempera, on canvas, wood or cardboard, supports most often prepared by himself.
Since 1983, his work has been exhibited in different venues, galleries, and museums.
