Description
A lively and spontaneous stroke captures a moment of relaxation here. The drawing focuses on the essential. Three female figures occupy the space in a stripped-down composition.
The artist favors an intuitive approach. The gesture is free, without calculation or artifice. The lines cross to structure the background and suggest the surface of the water.
The gaze first falls on the standing silhouette. Her raised arms create a stable verticality in the center of the image. Beside her, two other swimmers extend the scene in absolute calm.
This work is based on a demanding pictorial tradition. The absence of color reinforces the immediate legibility of the composition. Each hatching brings a subtle depth to the whole.
The image seems to emerge from an inner impulse, far from any desire for technical demonstration.
The drawing is executed in pencil on toothed paper, signed and dated 2026.
Presentation
Thomas Groslier was born in Amiens in 1957.
In 1976, he entered the Beaux-Arts of Valence.
During his training years, he was interested in the works of Delvaux, Gromaire, Balthus, De Chirico, Van Gogh and Fragonard.
Starting in 1983, he develops a figurative work drawing from classicism. His subjects are multiple: portraits, landscapes, still lifes, and genre scenes.
His painting is characterized by a smooth and precise execution, as well as a generally restricted palette, dominated by blues, grays, and greens.
The artist favors small formats, more intimate ones, and develops different techniques. He works mainly with oil and tempera, on canvas, wood or cardboard, supports most often prepared by himself.
Since 1983, his work has been exhibited in different venues, galleries, and museums.
